“It Ends With Us” is a film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, directed by and starring Justin Baldoni and co-starring Blake Lively.
We pick up the story with Lily Blossom (Blake Lively) returning home to see her mother and speak at her father’s funeral and we sense the conflict and difficulties that resided within this family.
Lily starts a new life in Boston and realises her dream of having her very own flower shop. A chance encounter with Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) a charming neurosurgeon , leads to romance but as the relationship develops a darker more manipulative side starts to show.
Lily starts to reflect on similar patterns of abusive behaviour her father inflicted on her mother and that along with a re-acquaintance with her first love , Atlas (Alex Neustaedter ) ultimately gives her the clarity she needs to deal with it.
Although this film plays like a Romantic drama it has the complex issue of domestic violence at its core and for me the emotional depth of Blake Lively’s performance is effective in shining a light on that while giving us a positive and uplifting story of self-reliance and the power it brings.
